The Lost Boys of Sudan

Nearly 30,000 Sudanese boys and girls were made refugees from their homes in Southern Sudan during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Displaced from the Bor region of Southern Sudan, children walked to Ethiopia in search of homes. In 1991, civil war in Ethiopia forced the boys to flee to Kenya. For their young lives, these men knew only life in refugee camps, and miles of marching between them' through swamps, chased by lions, and hunted by men with guns. In 2001, nearly 4,000 Lost Boys came to the U.S. seeking an end to, or at least a break from their refugee lives. Some settled in Tucson.
